Fleas and Ticks

Fleas and ticks bring discomfort and disease, highlighting the need for consistent prevention.

Fleas and ticks are the external parasites that dogs most commonly suffer from. They usually active in, but not limited to, the warmer months in Ottawa.

How can I tell if my dog has fleas or ticks?

To check your dog for fleas or ticks you need to thoroughly examine your pet’s skin by parting their fur. Fleas often leave behind clues in the form of black debris (blood and fecal remnants). Ticks can be very hard to find as they can be very small or hide in thick fur. Ticks can be found most commonly around the neck and head and appear stuck to the skin. Dogs may scratch, roll and/or display signs of restlessness due to itching/discomfort.
