Effie Bruce

Registered Veterinary Technician

Effie graduated with honours from the Veterinary Assistant Program in 2006. She started working at Centretown Veterinary Hospital in December 2008 – just 6 months after it opened.

She quickly realized that she had to know more and do more for the animals, so Effie decided to go back to school. While working and attending school, Effie graduated from the Veterinary Technician Program at Algonquin College and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2013. While in school, Effie’s dog Doug (a dachshund she adopted from the Canada Dachshund Rescue) was well known and loved among the students for his adventures and antics. Doug sadly passed away this past July, but his memories still live on through “crazy Doug” stories.

Effie is Centretown’s Head Technician and the main go-to for most things at the hospital. She helps out in most aspects of the daily operation of the hospital but she particularly enjoys training staff and coordinating the co-op students.

Outside of work, Effie enjoys being a “hockey mom” to her 14-year-old son. Her family also has a rescue pup named Raven whose energy and excitement keeps them hopping!
