Meghan was born and raised in Moncton, New Brunswick and is a proud Maritimer. Her family got their first dog, a Portuguese Water dog named Keisha, when she was four years old. Meghan always loved and appreciated animals growing up. She had other furry friends as a child including two hamsters and a Miniature Schnauzer named Kaiser who still lives back home with her parents. Although she always had a love of animals, Meghan did not know she was destined to become a veterinarian until her first year of university. As a child, she once gave thought to it, until her father told her she would have to perform rectal exams on cows and then it no longer seemed quite as appealing.
Today, being a veterinarian is more appealing than ever (although the rectal exams aren't always the most pleasant!) Meghan graduated in 2011 from the University of New Brunswick with a degree in science and focus in biology. She then attended the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island and graduated in May of 2015. Meghan has always lived in the Maritimes (and although, it is a lovely place), she was ready for something a little bigger and a little more exciting and that`s when she met the wonderful staff at Centretown Veterinary Hospital and fell in love with the city of Ottawa! Meghan is very excited to begin her new career as a veterinarian and is looking forward to working with all of the lovely clients and patients of Centretown Veterinary Hospital.
In her spare time, Meghan enjoys figure skating, playing hockey, singing, baking, movies and may be described by friends as a shopaholic! She also enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Ron & Neville, who are now retired teaching beagles from the vet college as well as her two cats, Oliver and Tucker!
With recent changes to restrictions on businesses, we are pleased to advise that effective May 19, 2020 the restrictions on veterinary practices have been lifted. Based on these changes, below are some important updates to our operating policies.
1. WE CAN NOW SEE ALL CASES BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
This includes vaccines, wellness exams, blood work, heartworm testing, spays and neuters, dental services, and more!
2. SAFETY MEASURES TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE
Continue our "closed waiting room" policy to protect our clients and staff. When you arrive, please remain outside the hospital and use your cell phone to call us. We will take a history of your pet's health and discuss any concerns. A staff member will direct you either to the back door located at the back of the parking lot if your pet is a dog. This is where you will open the door and tether your dog to the wall on the inside with the leash provided or for our cat friends the assistant will direct you to leave your cat at the front door in their carrier. The Veterinarian will call you to discuss the recommended treatment plan. After your appointment, a staff member will return your pet to the same place that you originally placed them at intake. We will take payment over the phone or by e transfer. Medications, food, certificates and all other supplies will be with your pet when you pick them up.
Continue the use of credit cards as the preferred payment method.
Continue with curbside pickup of food and medication (unless you have used our online store and are having your order delivered directly to your home). To place an order through our online store, visit our website and click on "Online Store".
3. ONLINE CONSULTATIONS ARE AVAILABLE
If you wish to connect with a veterinarian via message, phone or video, visit our website and follow the "Online Consultation" link.
